Overview

From the central zone to the north of the country, you will explore a well-known island sitting in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, get to know Chile’s capital, and visit the world’s driest desert – making this 12-day experience an adventure spanning the country!

The journey will begin with an incredible stay on Easter Island, where you’ll enjoy its great natural heritage and learn about Rapa Nui and Polynesian ancestral culture. Then, you will visit the cities of Santiago and Valparaíso, declared a World Heritage Site. Finally, you’ll continue your journey towards the northern end of the country, San Pedro de Atacama; a destination right in the desert where you’ll enjoy amazing scenery, food, and local produce, and take in Atacama culture.

With our programme, you will visit some of the most remote and spectacular spots in Chile.


Itinerary Details

DAY 1:
AIRPORT - SANTIAGO

Your journey will begin with a night’s stay in Santiago. Once you arrive at the airport, a rep from our agency will be waiting for you with a driver, ready to take you to Hotel Ismael 312 in the city. After check-in, you’ll have the afternoon free to rest or stroll around the city.

DAY 2:
SANTIAGO AIRPORT - EASTER ISLAND

After breakfast at the hotel, an Ecochile Travel rep will come and pick you up to head to Santiago airport, where you will catch your flight to Easter Island. Once you’ve arrived, a local guide – who you’ll be able to spot from their sign with your full name on – will take you to the Altiplánico Hotel. After checking in, you will have the afternoon free to explore the island by yourself. You can visit the craft market, have lunch and dinner in local eateries, and get ready for the following day.

DAY 3:
RANO RARAKU VOLCANO, TONGARIKI, TE PITO KURA & ANAKENA BEACH

FULL DAY TOUR: THE ARRIVAL OF THE HOTU MATU’A.

After having breakfast in your hotel, your Full Day Tour will begin and get to know the island’s attractions in more detail. The day starts at the archaeological site Ahu Te Pito Kura, where you can see the only fallen Moái that has stayed in that position over time. Then, you will head for the Rano Raraku volcano, where all the island’s Moái and other statues were made. After that, you will enjoy a delicious snack at Ahu Tongariki, which is considered to be the biggest built ceremonial structure on the island. It has fifteen Moái, displayed in a row. After looking around, you will go to an ancient ceremonial platform called Ahu Akahang, and round the day off at the beautiful Anakena beach.

DAY 4:
ORONGO & AHU AKIVI

PART 1: ORONGO – “THE LEGEND OF THE BIRD-MAN”.

After having breakfast in your hotel, you will go to the place where the Bird-man competitions were held in ancient times. This celebration took place annually in Spring, on the hillside of the Rano Kau volcano and in the ceremonial village of Orongo. Here, you will see this volcano, which is considered to be the biggest on the island, as well as the ceremonial village, which is highly valuable both culturally and spiritually, and a cave by the sea known as Ana Kai Tangata. Inside this cave, you can find cave paintings done by the ancient inhabitants of the island.

PART 2: AHU AKIVI- “GAZING AT THE STARS”.

On this tour, you can see and learn about how ancient islanders connected with celestial and astronomical events occurring above the island. You will explore three archaeological sites while on a hike: the underground cave of Ana Te Pahu, the Ahu Akivi platform with seven restored statues, and the Puna a Pau quarry, which is a crater formed by an ancient volcano.

DAY 5:
EASTER ISLAND - SANTIAGO AIRPORT

Your last day on the island. Depending on your flight time, you may have time to explore the area of your own accord. A van will pick you up from the hotel at an agreed time and take you to the airport where you’ll catch your flight back to Santiago. Once you arrive, an agency rep and driver will take you back to the hotel Ismael 312 in the city. After checking in, you’ll have the afternoon off and can roam the streets of Santiago. We recommend going out to eat in the Lastarria area and visiting the market or Santa Lucía hill near to the hotel.

DAY 6:
SANTIAGO - PRIVATE "WALKING CITY TOUR"

Once you have enjoyed breakfast at your hotel, we will pick you up at around 9 am to begin your private walking tour around Santiago’s city center. On it, you will see some of the city’s main heritage sites, such as government house and its fascinating history, the multicultural Plaza de Armas, the picturesque Central and Vega Market, we will also visit the San Cristobal Hill and some of the historic neighborhoods, such as Lastarria, Bellas Artes, and Santiago Centro. Then we are going to have lunch (included)  in one of the typical restaurants of the bohemian Bellavista neighborhood. Finally, we will be returning to our hotel.

 Itinerary:

  • Pick-up Hotel from Santiago (9 am).
  • Private City tour at Santiago’s heritage area.
  • Visit the Central & the Vega Market.
  • Take the cable car of San Cristobal Hills.
  • Chilean snacks during the tour.
  • Drop-off Hotel.

DAY 7:
SANTIAGO - PRIVATE TOUR "VALPARAISO & WINE"

Our driver will pick us up between 9 and 9:30 am to head to the port town of Valparaíso. On the way, we’ll stop in Casablanca Valley to explore and sample some wines from the Emiliana vineyard. Then we’ll continue on towards Valparaíso, where we’ll explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site on foot. We will visit the port, the Plaza Sotomayor, the Alegre, Concepcion and Florida Hills, using local transport such as the Trolebús (trolley) and elevators, both heritage elements. We can look at the amazing street art there and learn about the history, architecture, and legacy of the early 20th, late 19th century immigrants who made this city so multicultural and cosmopolitan.

Once we’ve finished our tour, we will have lunch at a local restaurant (not included) and, at around 4 pm, we will head back to the capital to get ready for the following day.

  • Pick-up Hotel from Santiago (9 – 9:30 am).
  • Visit Casablanca’s winery..
  • Visit Valparaíso’s port, famous hills and historical center.
  • Lunch in a local restaurant in Artilleria or Florida Hill (Not Included).
  • Drop-off Hotel in Santiago (6 pm Approx).

DAY 8:
SANTIAGO AIRPORT - CALAMA / SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA

Day 8’s adventure will start with you heading towards the Atacama Desert. Sometime in the morning, an agency rep and driver will pick you up from the hotel and take you to Santiago airport, where you will catch your flight towards the city of Calama. When you arrive in the north of the country, a local guide and driver will be waiting to continue your journey towards the town of San Pedro de Atacama, chosen for its great historical and cultural value. On the way, you will drive across part of the Atacama Desert and see salt sculptures created by the wind, hills that change color depending on the time of the day, and mountain chains such as the Andes and the Domeyko mountains. Once you are in the town itself, your driver will drop you off at your hotel in San Pedro. After check-in, you’ll have time to have lunch and explore the beautiful town.

DAY 9:
SAN PEDRO – HIGH PLATEAU LAGOONS & SALT FLAT OF ATACAMA

Please Note: Itinerary may vary according to weather and road conditions, however, we will endeavor to make your guided tour as comfortable and timely as possible.

After breakfast, we set out for the Chaxa lagoon, which is located in the National Reserve “Los Flamencos” in the center of the Atacama Salar. The small and large Parina, as well as Chilean Flamenco, are seen here, their pink color contrasted with the bright white of the salt crystals and the deep blue of the lake. Following that, a pit break for lunch in Socaire, a peaceful hilltop community known for its basic dwellings with no windows or terraces. After lunch, the excursion will continue to the 4,200m/13,779ft. elevation of the Miscanti and Miñiques Altiplano lagoons. You can see a variety of Altiplano birds, flamencos, foxes, and vicunas among the towering volcanoes.

Finally, we’ll visit Toconao, an oasis with perfect climatic conditions for growing native fruits and vegetables, see the church, which has been declared as a national monument, and shop for local handicrafts.

DAY 10:
SAN PEDRO - MOON VALLEY, GEYSERS & MACHUCA VILLAGE

PART 1: TATIO GEYSERS AND MACHUCA VILLAGE.

On this day, we’ll visit the legendary Tatio Geysers, which are the world’s highest at 4,320m/14,173ft. Please note that pick-up from the hotel will be early in the morning, as this gives you the best chance to see the geysers in their full splendor and to savor the unusual early morning desert light. To make the most of this natural treasure, breakfast will be served on-site. In this entirely natural setting, you can also take a peaceful bath in a rustic pool of warm water. On our way back to San Pedro, we’ll stop in Machuca, a community where residents have been breeding llamas and collecting Llareta (a flowering plant in the Apiaceae family) for decades.

PART 2: VALLEY OF THE MOON.

After lunch, we’ll travel 13 kilometers east to the Valley of the Moon, a natural refuge with craters and wind-sculpted rock formations that resemble the Moon’s surface. This Valley has a haunting beauty that makes you wonder if you’re still on this earth. We return to the hotel after experiencing one of the most magnificent sunsets on the world while sampling cheese and wine.

DAY 11:
SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA - CALAMA AIRPORT / SANTIAGO

The last day in Atacama. Depending on your flight time, you will have a little time to look around San Pedro, where history buffs can visit the main square, and where you can see the beautiful local church and the Casa Inca (the oldest building in the town) or trek in the dunes on the outskirts. At an agreed time, a van will collect you from the hotel and take you to Calama airport, from where you’ll fly back into Santiago. Once in the capital, a representative driver from our agency will be waiting for you ready to take you to your hotel in Santiago, where you will spend the last night of the program.

DAY 12:
SANTIAGO DE CHILE AIRPORT

After breakfast and check-out from the hotel, a driver of the agency will bring you to the airport of Santiago, where the incredible 12 days program through Chile will finish and where you can take your international flight back home.
