In Chile when paying for accommodations in US dollars, travelers are entitled to a 19 percent discount corresponding to Chile’s taxes, which we have already applied to your quote as hotels give rates in US dollars without taxes included. That’s because foreigners on a tourist visa are exempt from the country’s Impuesto de Valor Agregado (IVA, or Value Added Tax).
To make this discount valid you must present the passport and immigration card of each traveler of the group at the moment of checking-in at the hotel. In case of loss before checking-in or if not presenting the document before checking-out, the accommodation is entitled to charge you locally the 19 percent, corresponding to the taxes. Please note that the Migration Card must have a date of issue before your check-in at the hotel, because for registration to the authorities, the card must have been issued between the dates of your stay at the hotel.
If you misplace your immigration card, you can go to the PDI online service and request a duplicate. (The site is in Spanish, so please let us know if you need assitance)
The migration or tourist card is given to you upon your arrival – you must keep it with you until your final departure from Chile.
*The migration card shown on the image is only for your reference.
