We’ll start our journey on Easter Island. This island has been home to the Rapa Nui people for thousands of years, who crafted the giant rock “Moai” statues that dot the island’s landscape. We’ll hike up the island’s volcanoes to take in magnificent views across the Pacific horizon, explore ancient archaeological sites to discover the treasures of this Polynesian gem, and learn about local culture and traditions. Returning to the mainland, we’ll explore the highlights of Central Chile, like the capital city of Santiago, the colorful port of Valparaiso, and the idyllic wine valleys. The trip ends in the Atacama Desert – the driest desert in the world – where we’ll discover otherworldly landscapes like steaming-hot geyser fields, timeless lunar valleys, highland lagoons, hazy mountains and volcanoes, and some of the most spectacular night skies on the planet.

Itinerary Details

Welcome to Chile! A representative from our company will be waiting for you at the Santiago Airport to welcome you and take you to your hotel in the city. Along the way, we’ll go over your upcoming itinerary, as well as answer any questions you may have.

Depending on when your flight arrives, you will have free time during the day and evening to rest or explore the city a bit on your own. If you choose to go out and explore, here are some of our suggestions for points of interest.

Meals: None.

Eco Boutique Hotel Bidasoa

In the morning, you’ll be picked up from your hotel and taken to the airport for your flight to Easter Island. In the afternoon, you will visit Rano Kau, the largest volcano on Easter Island, and Orongo Village. After being picked up by your guide and driven to the base of the volcano, there’s an easy hike to the summit, where there are stunning views looking out over the volcano’s crater and the Pacific Ocean. Your guide will tell you everything about the history, culture, and important traditions that took place here as you explore the site. Then you’ll be taken back to your hotel and will have the evening free to explore and enjoy dinner at your own leisure.

Private Full Day Tour: Rapa Nui in History.

After breakfast, we’ll depart the hotel for Rano Raraku Volcano, the site of one of the most amazing archaeological treasures on the island. Afterwards, we’ll head to Ahu Tongariki, Easter Island’s largest traditional stone platform. Then we’ll continue on to Anakena Beach to visit Ahu Nau Nau, enjoy a delicious lunch from one of the local food stands, and even take a refreshing dip in the turquoise waters.

After lunch, we’ll visit a volcanic cave system known as the “Roiho” or “Te Ana.” The Rapa Nui people used these caves as hide-outs during clashes between different tribes and raids. You will explore different caves, including Ana Te Pahu, Ana Te Pora, and Ana Kakenga, after which we’ll return to your hotel, where you’ll have the rest of the evening free.

Then we’ll hike up the slopes of Rapa Nui’s oldest volcano to visit other important sites like the Vai a Heva, a human-faced rock that was used to collect rainwater, and the Ana o Keke, where it’s believed women were sent to prepare for fertility rites. Afterwards, we’ll return to Hanga Roa to have lunch.

In the afternoon, we’ll head to the island’s highest summit, Maunga Terevaka, with the option to ascend the mountain either on foot (hiking) or on a horseback ride. From the top, you’ll have a complete panoramic view of the island. On the way back, we’ll pause at Ahu Akivi, a beautiful Ahu site.
